Mid-Semester Questions to Ask Your Students In-Person / Online

Co-Presenters:
Dr. Bethany Stone, Curators' Distinguished Teaching Professor of Biological Sciences, MU
Dr. Liz du Plessis, Manager of Instructional Design, Missouri Online

Explore how and why to incorporate mid-semester feedback surveys into your courses to check in with students about their needs and experiences. Surveys are valuable for both in-person and online instructors to gain insights into what is working well along with improvements that can be made before the semester ends. Surveys also show students that instructors at MU care about teaching. Dr. Stone will share a Canvas Survey she has used for mid-semester feedback, how students responded, and how shed used the feedback. Dr. du Plessis will demonstrate how to create anonymous surveys using Qualtrics, Google, and non-graded quizzes in Canvas. She will also show how to access resources for the online Missouri Cares About Teaching (MoCAT) survey. Participants will have opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences.
