How to AI-Proof Your Assignments: Aligning AI Use with Expectations In-Person / Online

This session helps instructors design or update assignments so they stay effective whether or not AI use is allowed in their courses. You’ll learn how to strengthen your tasks for an era where students may or may not be using AI, with practical strategies for making expectations clear, reducing confusion, and shaping work that supports genuine learning. We will look at examples of AI resistant assignment design, ways to communicate expectations, and approaches that keep assessments meaningful regardless of your AI policy.

Participants will be able to identify how AI may affect the structure and integrity of common assignment types and revise or design assignments that remain effective whether AI is allowed, restricted, or prohibited. They will learn to communicate clear expectations for AI use to students and apply strategies that preserve meaningful learning while accounting for what AI tools can and cannot do.
