Build-a-Bot: Crafting Your Own AI Teaching Assistant In-Person / Online

This learning lab guides instructors through building a custom AI assistant designed for their own teaching needs. You’ll learn how to shape a bot’s behavior, define its role, and apply practical prompt engineering techniques to create a tool that supports your course and your workflow. Together as a group, we will build an assistant step by step so everyone can learn the process in real time and see how design choices affect the final tool.

Participants will be able to explain the core components and behaviors that shape an AI teaching assistant, applying prompt engineering techniques to guide and refine how the assistant responds. They will build a working prototype tailored to their own course needs and evaluate how their design choices influence the assistant’s overall usefulness in teaching.
